The Frog Mission

In July, Leigh and I met with a medium.  The woman looked at me and told me that my son would come to me as a frog.  If you know me, you probably understand that I swiftly blew this off.  Last Summer was the first Summer I didn’t see a frog or even a tadpole in years.

In October, a good buddy and I went to Nicaragua on a surf trip for a few days.  On our last day, we were enjoying drinks while watching the sunset over a pool that looked over the Pacific.  A large bullfrog swam across the pool and sat at the water’s edge.  I walked towards it.  It didn’t move.  I then walked around the pool towards the ocean and it swam alongside me.  I stopped on the other side of the pool and the frog jumped up on the edge.  It once again stared at me as I checked the surf thinking about what the medium had told me months earlier.

As I walked back to the lounge chairs, the frog once again followed me.  Despite children playing in the pool and people walking around, it would casually swim around them and stayed within feet of me.  As the sun set further, I began to get emotional thinking that this was a sign.  I sat in a poolside chair with this frog feet from me.  As it got darker, I lost track of where he was and thought ultimately he jumped into the garden.  I stood up to walk back to my friend and this rather large frog jumped into me while making a noise.  Not only was I startled, I had never experienced a frog who wasn’t scared of humans, let alone one that dove at me.

Eventually, I walked back to my seating area.  The frog once again swam next to me in the pool as I walked its edge.  He resumed sitting poolside staring at me until I left thirty minutes later.

For Thanksgiving, we stayed at my parents in Florida.  As we walked into the front door on the first day of our visit, a frog jumped in front of Leigh, Landon and I.  He quickly made himself at home jumping into our kitchen.  I grabbed a cup and he kindly allowed me to scoop him up and put him back outside in the garden.

I realized that signs are all around us.  My wife sees butterfly’s everywhere and that is her sign that Brooks is with us.  Having these moments have helped me to realize that there are some things I’ll never be able to explain.
